Arsenal Could Demand Three Atletico Madrid Players In Alexandre Lacazette Transfer Deal

Atletico Madrid are said to be interested in signing Alexandre Lacazette and would consider a swap deal. But which players could be potential targets for Arsenal?

"At the moment it’s pretty difficult, unpredictable as well in terms of places as we are very restricted at the moment," Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta admitted last December.

In the aftermath of the global pandemic, football clubs all over Europe are expected to have limited funds for transfer dealings. This could mean player swaps or exchanges becoming a common occurrence over the next couple of seasons.

In light of this, Gunners' French forward Alexandre Lacazette has just one year remaining on his current contract and with La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid reportedly monitoring the situation, it could be wise for Arsenal to request a swap deal with one of Atleti's current stars. But which players should they target?

Mario Hermoso

With David Luiz set to leave the Emirates in the summer, Arsenal will be searching for a replacement in the centre of their defence. Therefore, if Arsenal do decide to offload Lacazette to Atletico this summer it makes sense for them to enquire about a potential swap deal with their promising defender, Mario Hermoso.

The 25-year-old centre-half has developed into a calm and collected customer in recent seasons and has helped guide Diego Simeone's men to first place in La Liga ahead of their final game on Saturday.

Hermoso moved from Barcelona-based Espanyol in the summer of 2019 and initially struggled for games in the Spanish capital, making just 15 league starts in his debut season.

However, the Spain international has nailed down a spot in the team this term, starting 29 league games for Atletico, keeping an impressive 15 clean sheets along the way.

Hermoso's individual statistics are equally impressive, ranking sixth in La Liga for tackles in the defensive third, fourth for the number of dribblers tackled and he hasn't committed a single error leading to an opponent shot all season.

Given that Arsenal are set to let Luiz leave in the summer and should the club decide to replace him, doing so with an accomplished centre-back like Hermoso could prove to be a shrewd piece of business. He is also a versatile defender, frequently filling in for Renan Lodi at left-back when called upon.

Yannick Carrasco

Should Arsenal let Lacazette leave in the summer they will be searching for a replacement in frontline. What better, then, than to swap him for a winger that guarantees goals and assists?

Throughout his spell in China, Yannick Carrasco was fiercely linked with a move to the red side of North London but opted to go back to Atletico, where he had previously spent three years, scoring a Champion League final goal in the process.

This season, Carrasco has bagged seven goals and assisted his teammates on a further 10 occasions across La Liga and Champions League play.

Carrasco would seamlessly fit into the left-side of Arsenal's attack with the potential to offer more creativity to a Gunners' side that has been severely lacking in that department.

The Belgian international has averaged 3.62 shot-creating-actions this campaign, the type of numbers which could help Arsenal frontman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang get back to his unstoppable best in front of goal.

Marcos Llorente

It would be negligent to identify possible Atletico Madrid trade partners for Alexandre Lacazette without highlighting mercurial midfielder, Marcos Llorente.

The Madrid-born Llorente will be a familiar face to Liverpool fans after he scored two wonderful goals in last season's Champions League to knock out the Merseyside club in the Round of 16.

Since that spectacular performance at Anfield, the 25-year-old has gone from strength to strength, chipping in with 13 goals and 12 assists across this season's La Liga and Champions League campaigns.

Llorente, predominantly a central midfielder, has been utilised in a plethora of positions this term, including playing on both flanks, as a second striker and even at wing-back.

Convincing Atletico to part ways with their Spanish starlet may be a tough task but a deal involving Lacazette plus cash could tempt them into agreeing on a deal with Arteta's men.

Kaio joined the Santos academy in 2012 at the age of 10 before making rapid strides within the youth setup.
